Oxygen sensor carbon buildup cleaning method you know?Engine Maintenance Technical Guide

When the oxygen sensor produces carbon, it may cause two abnormal conditions:
Carbon buildup clogs the sensor probe → signal voltage is high → the trip computer misjudges to reduce fuel injection → mixture concentration is too low
Oil clogging the ventilation holes → low signal voltage → the system incorrectly increases the fuel injection → the mixture concentration is too high.
When the above situation occurs, the following program can be used to clean the oxygen sensor carbon buildup:

Maintenance Recommendation

- First check the heating device: if the sensor internal heating platinum wire or wire harness broken (heater failure), cleaning is ineffective, need to be replaced professionally

Cleaning program

Applicable classification for oxygen sensor carbon cleaning:
Mildly dirty: use carburetor cleaner
Stubborn carbon: dilute sulfuric acid + ferric chloride mixed solution

Operation steps

Disassemble the sensor, configure the cleaning solution according to the ratio of 5:10 (according to the degree of carbon buildup fine-tuning concentration)
Soak the sensor head for 10-15 minutes
Rinse with clean water until the four sides of the ventilation holes are open, the bottom of the white ceramic carrier can be seen.
Repeat the rinsing when the effect is not good, until the white carrier is completely exposed.

Note

- The sensor must be thoroughly dried (moisture can damage the chip).
- It is recommended to use compressed air to accelerate the drying process.
- Wear protective equipment during operation.
